Deep Longevity’s FuturSelf Launches With Aims to Transform Corporate Wellness Programs
This week, Deep longevity, a subsidiary of Endurance Longevity, announced a new project dubbed FuturSelf. This free online application gives users insights to improve their long-term mental health and well-being.
Shortly after the launch, in a collaboration with Dr. Nancy Etcoff of Harvard Medical School, Deep Longevity published a research report to provide a scientific backdrop, so to speak, on the concept behind the new project.
Without getting into the nitty-gritty details (a deeper dive can be found here), researchers essentially took psychological survey data to predict the chronological age of the respondents. Eventually, through the use of deep neural networks, their model was able to better understand traits of the human psyche in relation to age. This can be shown through findings such as:
- Our ability to build meaningful relationships increases with age
- Our focus on personal growth steadily declines with age
- Our feeling of having a purpose in life declines with age, but only after 40–50 years
Now, collect all of this data and mash it up with a recommendation engine… and well, you’re left with the concept of FuturSelf – a new way for anyone to get an interesting perspective on their psychological age, future well-being, and risk of depression.
Take a survey. Get a personalized report. And enroll in an AI-assisted guidance program that helps you manage your mental health. Pretty simple, right?
Now, to be clear, projects like FuturSelf shows us how age can have a direct impact on “X,” or in this case, mental health… but not the other way around where “X” (i.e. breakthrough companies, research, new drugs, etc.) can directly impact your age.
We know the latter is what gets all the eyeballs (and capital), but that doesn’t mean we should overlook the potential of projects like FuturSelf… especially after learning more about what the team plans on doing with the technology…
According to the press release:
“Data obtained on FuturSelf will be used to further develop Deep Longevity’s digital approach to mental health with the aim of offering the application via a B2B SaaS model to insurance companies, large corporates and other employers to allow their employees to track their own mental health and wellbeing.
Using Deep Longevity’s digital approach to managing mental health, an invaluable feedback loop is created that can help employees thrive by increasing their motivation and productivity or allowing them to seek important emotional support when required.”
While there hasn’t been any confirmation on FuturSelf inking partnerships with large corporations (yet), we do look forward to it…
Why It Matters
In recent years, we’ve seen a rise in innovative mental health startups and treatments such as psychedelic therapy. But virtually none of them approach mental health through the lens of both our biological and chronological age.
If large corporations begin to adopt applications like FuturSelf – even if they’re using it for “productivity” reasons – it will allow millions of individuals to get a fresh perspective on the importance of their age.
Perhaps what’s more important, however, is the potential these initiatives can have on the longevity industry as a whole, with aging-focused services entering the mainstream via corporate wellness initiatives.
