Job Description

Work with drug discovery experts to elucidate impact of mitochondrial small molecules in vivo to progress these molecules to the clinic for patients.

Vincere Biosciences, a Cambridge, MA based company, is seeking highly motivated individuals to conduct grant funded in vivo research implementing published models of mitochondria- and age- related diseases. Expertise in Parkinson’s disease, cardiac models, and/or mitochondrial pathways preferred. As an early member of a growing biotech you will have the opportunity to work with a broad array of techniques, have direct interaction with the management team, and significant opportunity for influence and growth.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Design and implementation of rodent experiments to evaluate the effect of mitochondrial small molecules and understand target biology.
  • Ability to work with other team members across a variety of animal models to determine effect of mitochondrial small molecules across a range of models including MPTP and D- gal in non-transgenic, Mito-QC, and Mt-Keima transgenic mice.
  • Ability to work with cell biologists to isolate primary cells including cardiomyocytes.
  • Read and review literature to ensure best methods and assays are employed to answer biological questions.
  • Integrate learnings across disease models and tissues to develop a holistic understanding of age and disease-related mitochondrial decline.
  • Develop new methods including mitochondrial biomarkers or other specialized assays.
  • Analyses, integration, and interpretation of external and internal data, planning of the next set of experiments.
  • Complete quantitative and qualitative assessments of experimental results.

Qualifications: The ideal individual will have:

  • PhD in a cell biology related field required.
  • Expertise in mitochondrial biology required.
  • Experience with in vivo models involving mitochondrial function preferred.
  • Experience with various readouts and assays (e.g. apoptosis, viability), biochemical Immuno assays (ELISA, Western blot, FACS) and microscopy (IHC, ICC) preferred.
  • Familiarity with start up culture.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Publication record of expertise and accomplishment in a related field.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to manage multiple projects in parallel.
  • Able to work independently.
